OUR MISSION We’re Kurma. And, yes, there’s a story behind that name and we’d love to share it with you one day. In short, it holds a reference to a Hindu legend that teaches us about the importance of having a support system, as well as reminding us of the tremendous courage it takes to change a status quo. Stories are great conversation starters and every brand should have one that appeals to the imagination, but we’re not here to tell you stories, we’re here to shake things up. As a manufacturer of yoga equipment, our goal is to put all our efforts into creating circular products that have as little impact on the environment as possible.We believe it’s time to clean up our act and we have the plan to do just that. But it goes beyond clean production. If we really want to get serious about reducing the ecological impact of our beloved yoga community, we’re going to need to pull together.

The escalating impacts of climate change and pollution are one of the most pressing global challenges of our time. Facing a planet in crisis, we have to undertake actions now to achieve the correct balance between our own consumption, the on-hand resources and the waste linked to production and consumption.Within the yoga community Kurma is actively shaping a truly sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come. KURMA AIMS TO REDUCE THE VAST ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF YOGA.

• In 2021 we launched our zero waste props collection, consisting of EVA blocks, cork blocks and a cotton blanket. Each of these products is made of at least 80% recycled material. • In 2020/21 we introduced the GECO Series , the only rubber mats that can be 100% recycled into new rubber yoga mats. • We initiated the ContinuOM Collective , a non-profit organisation dedicated to finding sustainable solutions for hard-to-recycle waste streams generated by the yoga industry and its consumers. To implement these solutions, we have launched the Second Flow initiative focusing on the collection of used yoga mats, the donation of too-good-to-go mats to worthy cause, and the recycling of yoga mats and production waste into new [yoga] products. In 2021 we recycled 5633 PVC and 2300 rubber yoga mats.

It is our goal to make every product we sell 100% recyclable , and several major milestones to achieve this ambitious aim have already been set:

Kurma yoga mats are strictly tested for harmful substances. These are certified according to Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, Product Class I (articles for babies and toddlers). The manufacturing process of our yoga mats is emission-free and energy-efficient. To minimize our impact on global warming, Kurma will become fully transparent and produce carbon-neutral yoga mats and props by end of 2022.
